Scott Buchanan

Scott Buchanan is a retired Deputy Chief of Police with 26 years of experience in law enforcement. During his time at West Valley City, he led the Department’s modernization of its secondary employment program by successfully partnering with Off Duty Management. He played an instrumental role in implementing a new agency-wide Records Management System, which improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s operations. He also modernized the department’s training programs and successfully resuscitated a defunct federal asset-sharing program, which led to significant additional resources for Department initiatives. Scott commanded all administrative elements of the department and successfully revamped the professional standards process, ensuring that the department is accountable to the community it serves. Scott is a graduate of the FBI Command College and the University of Utah’s Adaptive Leadership program.
